#SchreckenweissRoadTrip..... more like Schreckenweiss Christmas Vacation. Though we don’t have kids I feel like our road trips are just as chaotic as the Griswolds.... especially when you are talking about a 6+ hour drive. We broke it up by stopping in Wendell MN. Where we met Michael’s new niece, Laney Ann Weiss, who was 18 days old. She is so beautiful...we got to see the other two beautiful #WeissGirls.. and Erik and Kendra of course! The hardest thing about living in Marshall, is being 3.5 hours away from our families...
We were so excited to see those kids.. Lennon’s favorite thing to do is make Americanos, non fat lattes, ice cream or hotdogs. That kid has a future in the hospitality world. Ellis loves to do her own thing, she is so independent. I pray everyday they find the correct medication for her epilepsy. She is the strongest 2 year old I know. Laney Ann slept the whole time I held her, but her facial expressions were the best, She is 18 days and has the eye roll mastered.
We only had about 45 min to spend, but it was so worth it, I wish we could have stayed longer, but look forward to summer weekends at the lake with them.

Roseau MN
8 hours later, at 9:09 pm, we made it to Roseau, MN. Population 2,754. 3 stop lights and 3 ice arenas... this is my kind of place! It also did not stop snowing the full day we were there. It was so beautiful. Michael’s Grandpa Floyd has been very sick lately, so we spent most of the time at the hospital. There is nothing better then family time is Roseau, it makes the 7 hour drive so easy, I would do it again in a heart beat. Not the ideal way to spend the holidays but we made the most of it.
We did make the mandatory trip to Annie’s Trading Post. The most amazing store eve. They have everything you could ever need, which makes #ShopRoseau very easy to do. I also purposely didn’t buy some gifts early because I’m knew I could get them at Annie’s. Then we checked out the new coffee shop, the Bear and the Bean. Can’t say enough great things. Amazing winter blend, and even better cinnamon rolls!
After a few days with Michael’s family we had to say an emotional good everyone, not knowing if it would be our last chance to see Grandpa Floyd. The road trip continued to Elk River for Christmas with the Schreckenghaust’s.

Next stop: Elk River
Knowing we had an opportunity to see Lucette (Paul Bunyan’s wife) and our final Paul Bunyan in Minnesota, we took a round about way to Elk River.
Driving through the Red Lake Indian reservation, Michael claims we saw 3 wolves.... . So far everyone we have walked to said it probably was. I just but a twitter poll out.... 98 percent agree with Michael.
We made it to see Lucette, Baudette MN ✔️
Paul Bunyan Statue in MN!!! Jenkins, MN ✔️

While in Elk River, we got to spend quality time with family, our favorite thing to do is eat, and play cards. and that we did, pretty sure I (Cassi) won every game of up and down the river & our new fav Horse races!! Michael and Scott may disagree..
For our family Christmas Eve meal we did fondue, the patience was short but the food was delicious
December 26th at about 2:00, Michael got the news his grandpa passed away. We knew this was a possibility, and were prepared to make the trip back up for the prayer service and funeral.
Michael was blessed to share a birthday and middle name with his Grandpa Floyd. Between time spent with family and the prayer service it was amazing to share pictures and stories about Floyd. It was clear how loved Floyd was in Roseau, the funeral packed the church and the overflow area. Grandpa Floyd taught his grandkids the importance of treating everyone with respect, trusting the Lord, the beauty of nature, and how a well timed joke can turn around anyone’s day.
It was tough to say goodbye, our favorite road trip stop was in Roseau. Grandpa Floyd and Uncle Jeff made sure Cassi had an authentic Roseau trip. Eating at Earl’s, shooting BB guns in the backyard, shopping at Annie’s and ending with breakfast with all of Floyd and Margie’s best friends.
This trip was long and difficult but always as Lennon would say, “Grandpa great is heaven with Jesus now.” That we can be grateful for,

Moorhead
We decided to cut the 7 hour drive in half by going to Moorhead and spending some more time with the nieces. There is nothing more heart warming then spending time with those three beautiful girls. We spent the night making multiple forts, playing house, making “hotdogs”, and getting our nails painted by a 4 year old.
It’s so amazing watching these kids grow up. It also makes me so mad that Ellis is going through such a hard time with epilepsy. It makes me mad that it effects the whole family, and there isn’t much we can do to help out. Ellis started a new Ketogenic diet that will hopefully help decrease the seizures. Can 2018 please bring some peace of mind to Erik and Kendra, by bringing growth and less seizures to baby Ellis?
